About the projectLogo PeerProzesse

In Peer Processes - Democracy Competences, practitioners analyse the teaching of competences for democracy with the help of peers from neighbouring countries and with the Council of Europe's Reference Framework for Competences for a Democratic Culture.

The aim of the Peer Processes is to assess the current focus and strengths of concrete learning activities and give impulses for their further development. Like this, we contribute to the improvement of democracy education Germany, Austria and Switzerland: which democracy competences are being promoted in practice and what works best? How do pracititioners assess their work themselves; and what can they learn from the outside perspective of comparable projects from neighbouring countries? How could competences for democracy be promoted even more holistically? The instruments of the Council of Europe and the exchange with comparable projects and experts provide impulses for further development.

The project was launched by Demokrative together with the Campus für Demokratie and the Demokratiezentrum Wien as part of the ANSTOSS DEMOKRATIE initiative. We see the first implementation in winter 2021/22 as a pilot process and will evaluate the type and timing of the continuation in spring 2022.

Project news and agenda

  • The deadline for applications for the peer processes is 4 November 2021. Individuals or teams from German-speaking countries with their own learning activity (ongoing or planned) to promote competences for democracy and an interest in reflecting on and developing it further are invited to apply. In November, we will form five transnational peer groups from the applicants, who will then analyse their respective learning activities step by step together and with the support of experts. Registration information will be available here soon.

  • The closing event of the first edition of the peer processes will take place on 5 April 2022.
